In this segment of Beeranomics I would like to take a moment to reflect on the previous week’s election. If take a look at this under a “beer-a-scope” (patent pending), we will find the following interesting use of beer. The 2012 presidential election cycle was an epic race in terms of who could collect the most money in support. Together, both parties raised over 1.8 billion dollars for their campaigns. Let’s see what we could have done with that amount of money in terms of beer.

Total: 1.8 billion dollars is equivalent to

  • 12 million kegs of Craft Beer, or enough kegs to throw a kegger with 7 kegs, every day, at every college in the United States for a year!
  • 186 million gallons of Craft Beer, or enough beer to turn every water fountain in America in to a “Beer Fountain” for a year.
  • 2 billion cans of Miller Lite, or enough to give every person in Detroit 8 beers every day for a year.

These are just some figures to keep in mind next time you are reaching in your pockets to fill the tip jar of a politician. Just think how much beer you could buy instead.
